Governor Changes Executive Order for Graduations Mynderse Academy Commencement to be Held June 26.
With the current guidelines set by New York State Department of Health and the Governor’s Executive Order, we have to abide by the 150 attendee limit for graduation. Based on the responses from a recent survey of Seniors and their parents, we have created the following plan.
We will now be able to have two traditional graduation ceremonies (one after the other) with physical distancing. This will include:
- ½ of the class at each ceremony
- 2 family members per student/household (tickets issued prior to ceremony)
- Student speeches
- Read award/scholarship recipients of the students that are present for each ceremony
- Administration opening and closing remarks
- Presentations of diplomas on stage
- Photo of graduate during ceremony
- Ceremony streamed by Finger Lakes 1
The ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 26th at 5:00PM and 7:00PM. The rain date is Sunday, June 28th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
We understand that the graduates wish to come together at least one more time as a class. This will happen during graduation rehearsal on Friday, June 26th at 10:00AM. At this rehearsal, students will receive their tassels, cords, gifts, and a breakfast to go. They will also see a number of their teachers who will be present.
If the Governor changes the guidelines again and the number of attendees is increased by at least 100, we will move to 1 large traditional ceremony with 2 family members per student/household attending. This decision would need to be made no later than noon on June 25, 2020.
If the Governor changes the guidelines and the number of attendees is decreased back to no more than 10 people, we will hold individual ceremonies on Bracht Field.
For those families not comfortable attending large group ceremonies, please let us know and we will make arrangements for the graduate to receive their diploma and the family to be present.
As we work out the specific details of graduation, we will communicate them with you. We appreciate your patience as we work within the guidelines to give our seniors the best possible graduation experience.
