Dear SFCSD Parents/Guardians:

We recently became aware of an online application/social media fad, called the “Momo Challenge”, which becomes accessible via mobile applications for texting.

It is important for parents and guardians to be aware of this new online application, which encourages users to engage in self-harm.

This new, and hopefully short-lived, trend provides the perfect opportunity for parents to check and monitor their children’s online application usage, as well as speak to them about refraining from communicating with, or engaging in behaviors recommended by, strangers.

Parents/Guardians can access additional information about the “Momo Challenge” via the following Newsweek link; https://www.newsweek.com/momo-challenge-how-parents-can-discuss-suicide-children-game-debunked-1346046.

Please know that school administrators, counseling staff, faculty, and staff members have been made aware of this new online prank and will be discouraging any conversations or promotions of this challenge.  As always, students have access to counseling staff at each of our schools if they wish to discuss this situation at greater length.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about this fad and taking the time to work together with us to promote proper and appropriate uses of online applications and social media.

Sincerely,

Robert McKeveny
Superintendent
Seneca Falls CSD
