Mid-Year Letter from Superintendent Bob McKeveny

January 2019

Dear Seneca Falls Central School District Parents, Guardians & Community Members:

With the 2018-2019 school year halfway completed, I wanted to take an opportunity to provide you with a number of important updates.

As you are likely aware, the Seneca Falls Central School District Board of Education has selected its next Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Jeramy Clingerman will begin as school district leader on July 1, 2019. Mr. Clingerman has already been in district on a few occasions and will spend additional time in district during the second half of the year. Compliments to the Board of Education for an excellent choice for its next Superintendent. Mr. Clingerman is a highly effective and very well respected Superintendent. He possesses all the qualities that are important to Seneca Falls Central School District. Mr. Clingerman looks forward to beginning his tenure here and making a total commitment to our school district community.

Seneca Falls Central School District continues to focus on action plan initiatives related to the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan. Developing Engaged Lifelong Learners has enabled us to focus on teaching and learning strategies that allow students to learn by doing, make choices about how to learn, and accept responsibility for learning. Our district's Blended Learning approach values teachers' knowledge, guidance and instructional delivery.  Access to digital devices and applications support and extend learning for our students. Data Informed Decision Making enables staff and students to make informed instructional decisions. Identifying strengths and areas of growth allows instruction to be targeted and meet the specific needs of all learners. A district-wide effort is underway to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, which support the whole child. School Community Connections has maintained our long-standing tradition of working with community partners to enhance and extend learning beyond the school and classroom walls. We look forward to continued growth in each of our three main action plan initiatives during the second half of this school year.

The District is on track to submit Capital Project plans to the New York State Education Department in February. It is expected to take 6-8 months for the review process to be completed and approval to be received. It is anticipated that renovations and improvement work will begin in spring 2020. As you may recall, this project will include renovations to the high school science classrooms, additional parking at Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elementary School, and demolition of the existing bus garage and construction of a new Seneca Falls Central School District Operations Center (at site of existing bus garage).

As always, we continue to enhance and practice school safety protocol and procedures. The district has upgraded its digital application to enhance communication amongst all school personnel during drills and emergencies. Labeling of all entrances, parking lots, and classrooms enable quicker and more direct responses. All schools will continue to practice evacuations and lockdown drills during the second half of the year. We are most appreciative of our close partnership with Seneca Falls Police Department related to school safety and are committed to continually enhancing school safety measures.

As always, thank you for your participation and support in the education of all Seneca Falls Central School District students. The Board of Education, District Staff, and I look forward to working with you to achieve success for all students during the second half of this school year.

Sincerely

Robert McKeveny,
Superintendent
