Weekly Highlights for April 15-19, 2024
Happy Friday, and Good Morning,
I hope you had a great week. I started off my week with reading to a Grade 1 Classroom. Thank you, Mr. Herbert and your students, I so enjoyed reading Knight Owl to your class. It helped me practice. Soon, Reading Week will be happening at Frank Knight; it begins May 6 and ends May 10th.
Mr. Kise, one of our awesome teaching assistants, shared the following highlight about Chess Club, which meets on Mondays during 10th period from 2:30PM - 3:00PM. Middle and High School students participate. Chess Club is normally twice a month to give different students in the club the chance to come down and take part.

Frank Knight
The importance of knowing your students and what topics they find motivating, leads to a higher level of student engagement! Mrs. Sergeant shared, “No better way to celebrate Danny the Dog’s birthday than with books and a writing journal! Happy Birthday, Danny!” Knowing your students and their interests is an important component of keeping students motivated.
Cady Stanton
5th graders had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Challenger Learning Center of Greater Rochester this week. This immersive experience integrates all subject areas as students work in teams to accomplish a mission. Half of the team works in Mission Control doing various jobs real astronauts would have and the other half of the team is in outer space, traveling to Mars to bring 4 astronauts home. Students worked collaboratively, read manuals, and performed tasks that led to successful missions. Students say this was the best field trip ever and the other half of our fifth graders are looking forward to their visit in May.
 
Middle School
Students are learning lifelong lessons in HHCS classes. The pictures below are of students in Mrs. Colvin’s classes. They are in the kitchens this week preparing dinner by following directions on boiling pasta, making sauce, and utilizing the stoves. All while working together and communicating with teamwork.
 
Mynderse
Koda, the therapy dog, made his much-anticipated debut at the high school on Wednesday, April 17, spreading warmth and comfort throughout the halls. With his gentle demeanor and wagging tail, Koda spent the entire day in the school, bringing joy to students and staff alike. During lunch periods, the students visited Koda in the library. The day was filled with smiles and appreciation as Koda began what appears to be the start of a beloved tradition within the high school community.

Curriculum and Instruction
Biology is a place to explore and understand. Inquiry based learning happening as evidenced by these faces.
Special Programs
Mrs. Beaudin engages in small group instruction with some of her students to provide supplementary learning activities for literacy. Mrs. Beaudin guides students using multisensory instruction to help her group use more than sense to connect with new words.
Athletics
It was a busy week for our student-athletes. Boys and Girls Lacrosse both won their games. Baseball and Softball beat Geneva this week. Tennis won their match and the Track and Field athletes continue improving their scores.
