Mrs. Anna Luisi-Ellis
Mrs. Anna Luisi-Ellis grew up in Watertown, NY. Throughout junior high and high school, she participated in choral and instrumental ensembles at school. She sang soprano in choir, played percussion in band, and played in the handbell choir. She sang NYSSMA solos every year, and participated in Bi-County Vocal Jazz and Area-All State Choir throughout high school.
Her first musical was in seventh grade, and she's been on stage ever since. She performed in shows at her high school as well as with community theatre companies. Her favorite roles include "Mary Magdalene" in Jesus Christ Superstar, "Emma" in Jekyll & Hyde, and "Ariel" in Footloose. Other roles include "Grace" in Annie, "Dainty June" in Gypsy, "Mama" in Once on this Island, "Ayah" in The Secret Garden, "Inez" in The Baker's Wife, and "Chiffon" in Little Shop of Horrors. She was an ensemble member in Fame, Evita, State Fair, Cinderella, Trial By Jury, and a featured performer in several Broadway revues.
During college, she was a member of Chorus, Women's Chorale and Summer Choir. Her senior year, she was the section leader for Women's Chorale. She performed at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center twice -- her freshman year they performed Carmina Burana and her senior year they performed Verdi's Requiem. She was also a chorus member for a performance of Handel's Messiah with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. She studied voice with Carl Johengen and Patrice Pastore, and studied piano with Dr. Diane Birr. In addition to her musical endeavors, she was active in Student Activities Board, Habitat for Humanity, Community Plunge, and Peer Volunteer Corps. She was a Leadership Scholar, Orientation Leader for two summers and also worked with Dr. Mark Fonder coordinating distribution and billing for the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. Her junior year, she was awarded the prestigious Peggy R. Williams Award for Excellence in Academic and Community Leadership and was named Who's Who of American College Students. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education (Voice) from Ithaca College.
After graduating, she moved to Charles County, Maryland and was the Vocal Music Director at Westlake High School for three years. She taught multiple choirs, piano classes and voice class, and vocal music directed Sweet Charity, The Wizard of Oz, and Guys and Dolls. She also taught private piano and voice lessons at a local music store. While in Maryland, she began working on her masters degree through Colorado State University. Her Masters program focused on conducting chorus, band and orchestra, and Luisi studied conducting with Professor Wes Kenney (CSU), Dr. Harlan Parker (Peabody Conservatory), Dr. Eric Hammer (University of the Pacific), Dr. James Kim (CSU), and Dr. Dwight Bigler (Virginia Tech). She earned her Masters in Music from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2012.
Along with her husband, Brad, she has been very involved with community theatre in the Finger Lakes region. She played "Sarah Brown" in the Geneva Theatre Guild/Seneca Community Players production of Guys and Dolls and was also seen in GTG's Shrek. She music directed SCP's production Company as well as Theatre 444's production of Spring Awakening. Inherit the Wind and Oklahoma! will be her thirteenth and fourteenth shows that she has directed here at Mynderse.
In their spare time, Anna and Brad play music in the Finger Lakes region for local wineries, restaurants and events. They also like gardening and cooking/eating food, hiking, camping, and going to shows. They have also recently started their own business, Finger Lakes Kombucha Company.
